Meet Yvette!

Yvette is my first cousin and she was nominated by me! For as long as I can remember she has always been a helper and sometimes to the detriment of her own dreams and aspirations. I wanted her to have a moment, not being a mommy or a caretaker, to feel beautiful and only think about herself. Yvette is almost done with her bachelor's degree in forensics and will then go on to pursue her dream of becoming a coroner, while also having an entrepreneurial spirit. By far one of the funniest people I know, this shoot was filled with jokes and outtakes.

1. When do you feel most beautiful?

I feel most beautiful when the people around me are as happy as I am. When I am doing my most creative work. I love to share my laughter with others. It helps me feel beautiful inside out versus outside in. Beauty they say is in the eye of the beholder, but I really believe it is actually in the mind. How can you feel beautiful in some of the ugliest places? By offering yourself to improve it. When you begin to seethe improvement and live the work for yourself, then you can see the real beauty that was not there before. It is not just visual. It is a feeling as well. I don’t want to be just beautiful, I want to feel beautiful! I want to share beauty with others even through its metaphysical side.

2. What do you love about yourself?

I love a lot of things about myself. (Laughter!) But I can honestly say they are possible to love because of my strength. My strength is the foundation of some of my greatest qualities. Things like motivation, determination, and perseverance are present in me because of the God given gift of strength! I am so thankful for it too! Strength allows me to cry when I need too. It allows me to keep pushing through any storm. I use my strength as much as I breathe oxygen! It is that vital for me.

3. What does fearless mean to you?

Fearless to me is power. Power of yourself. I would consider myself fearless. I am not saying that I do not fear anything in life, but I can say that my fears are not strong enough to stop me from doing anything that I want to do in life. I rather fear things like staying the same by not changing. I want to see improvement in what I am and do for the better. I want to always offer myself as a person of great quality and set not just a good example, but a great one!

4. What would you want a younger you to know?

It’s OK to say no. You don’t have to always extend yourself beyond your means to help others. It is ok to say no because you can’t do everything. One step at a time is still a good pace, you know? Love yourself first so you are even capable of helping others when you can. Then, and only then, will you be able to enjoy the reaping you have sowed. Also forgive yourself more. It is a mistake, but those mistakes become lessons learned.

5. Finish the statement- I am a woman who…

I am a woman who can be more than just a woman. I can be an example whether good or bad. I can be a force of nature. I can be a lover of the sciences. I can be a mother that loves her children. I can be a best friend. But best of all… I can be just ME. And I love it from every nucleus located in my cells to the many thoughts that are in my mind! Me. Beautifully me.
