We are exactly one week into the New Year. Congratulations to those who have kept their New Year Resolutions so far! As for the rest of us, don’t be wary and remember you can start over every day. Over the past week I’ve really been thinking about how the New Year inspires people to try to do their best and be their best, but I wanted to challenge you to be a little selfish this year and start some challenges that are ONLY about you. Every single one of these challenges should be done without the help of others, but in the end will make you a better woman and in turn everyone benefits.

1. Love yourself more.

I know. It’s hard. It’s selfish. There are always a million things to do between your busy work schedule, family and friends, significant others and children, but making yourself a priority is essential to being a happy and healthy woman. Take the breaks that you need to recharge yourself because you are not truly effective to anyone if you’re not at your best.

Make time for you. “Me time” is time that is reserved just for you, with no interruptions, not being worried about anyone else, but you. Even if it’s just 30 minutes a day doing exactly what you want (here are some suggestions), it’s a moment of reflection and clarity that makes the world of difference in our normally busy and hectic lives.

2. Play dress up!

There is nothing like getting all dressed up and feeling pretty, even if you’re not a girly girl. Most of us don’t have the time to play dress up often, but when you do get those rare moments take advantage. Have your own private fashion show or take out that dress you’ve been saving for a special occasion and plan something special!

3. Embrace your sensuality.

It’s ok to be sexy and feel sexy – on your own terms! Your sensuality should be defined by you. Don’t let others’ opinions or ideas shape the way or ideas of you feeling sensual. Whether it’s a dress, lingerie or great pair of jeans, own who you are as a woman and what makes you feel sexiest.

4. Splurge on that one thing you’ve been wanting.

Every woman I know has one thing that she really wants, but it’s too damn expensive. You know that thing… maybe it’s shoes, a purse or a new car. Get it this year! We live hectic lives and deserve at least one thing that we really want. Be smart though, don’t go into financial ruin trying to get it immediately. If you have to save and budget or even get a side hustle to afford that thing, it’s ok because you’re worth it!

5. Set a goal and accomplish it.

Pick any of the goals you’ve set out for yourself and start taking the steps towards achieving it. As you get closer, you’ll notice little changes in yourself because accomplishing goals is a confidence booster! It will change the way you define yourself and will increase your positive thoughts on getting things done, hence allowing you to accomplish more goals.

6. Choose at least one thing on your bucket list and do it!

The bucket list is a goal on steroids! Things on the bucket list are different than goals because accomplishing it makes you feel alive! This is the thing you’ve dreamed of, but may have been scared to do. Been thinking about going on a cross country road trip, traveling to a foreign place, jumping out of a plane?? Do it and don’t let anyone stop you! Make the necessary sacrifices and live life out loud!

7. Tell yourself at least once a day that you are beautiful.

Look in the mirror every single day and tell yourself out loud that you are beautiful. You don’t have to look like Beyoncé or Lupita to be beautiful because that’s what society says. Redefine society’s standard of beauty by allowing yourself to be called beautiful. It starts with you. The more you say it, the more you’ll believe it to be true and eventually you will see what other’s around you already see.
