Today is baby day! One of my bestest friends in the whole world, Bennisha, is having her second baby today!

Last month, I flew to Jackson, Mississippi just days before I left for South Africa to shoot her second maternity session. Despite the time crunch, it was important that I capture these moments the second time around for three reasons:

1. I got a chance to catch up with my friend and her awesome, growing family;

2. Her first maternity shoot was my very first photo shoot…EVER; and

3. We’re gonna keep this tradition going as long as she’s having babies.

Capturing little Ms. Faith first and now MJ, with big sister Faith has been awesome!

I purchased my DSLR camera about 2 months prior to Bennisha and Marcus’ first maternity session in 2014. It was an early birthday present for myself and I was shooting any and everything for practice. She already had a photographer for her baby shower and maternity session, so I asked her if I could get some more practice when I came to visit for the baby shower.

Two and a half weeks before the baby shower she surprised me and told me that she cancelled the maternity shoot and I would be the only one capturing those memories. Talk about pressure!!! I rushed to purchase a better lens and literally studied videos online until it the shoot. I was so nervous and I hoped I didn’t mess the photos up. However I was happy that my friend believed in me (even though I didn’t believe in myself at the time) and trusted me to capture her memories.

That shoot was a learning experience for me. I learned a lot of lessons about lighting, posing, being creative, and the temperament of a woman who is 8 months pregnant. LOL! Most importantly the photo shoot pushed me into not being afraid of a challenge.

Now here we are two years, two pregnancies, and a business name change later. These photos not only represent a new bundle of joy, but also my progress as a photographer over the last two years. These will always be special and representative not only her start of motherhood, but the start of my photography career as well.

Congrats again to the Zinnerman family!! Love you to pieces!!
